General Information About Sprout

What is Sprout Fiber Internet?

Sprout Fiber Internet is the name of Cullman Electric Cooperative’s high-speed fiber internet service.

Why is Cullman EC offering internet service?

By connecting our substations and offices with fiber-optic internet, we will create a smarter grid that will provide Cullman Electric with more automation capabilities, ultimately increasing the reliability of our electric service to our members.

This endeavor also falls in line with our mission to power communities and empower members. Quality internet today is the electricity of the 1930s and 1940s. In 1930, fewer than 10% of farms had access to electricity. Much like our cooperative did with electricity more than 80 years ago, we’re now providing reliable, affordable true high-speed internet to our subscribers.

Sprout Fiber Internet is an investment in our communities for generations to come.

Why do I want fiber internet over other technologies?

Fiber is the fastest and most reliable internet connection available. It is the latest, most advanced technology. Because Sprout is a direct wired fiber connection, speeds of up to 2 Gig are possible (that’s 2,000 Mbps or megabits per second), offering enough bandwidth to support your whole business or household. Internet over fiber helps businesses operate efficiently and competitively. It powers advances in health care and education. It even enhances entertainment with ultrafast video streaming (no buffering) and gaming (no lag) and makes working or schooling from home possible.

How do I find out if Sprout Fiber Internet is available in my area?

Visit our Check Availability page and enter your 911 service address to see if your location is available for service now, included in our build-out plan for this year, or is part of a future phase area. If service is not available today, please provide us your contact information within the form and we’ll notify you once service becomes available.

How much does Sprout cost?

We will offer three residential packages – Silver, Gold, and Platinium. Silver has upload and download speeds of 300 Mbps for $59.99 per month. Gold is our 1 Gig for $79.99 per month, and Platinum* is our 2 Gig for $119.99 per month. Basic Wi-Fi is included in the monthly price. There is no fee for basic installation and there are no contracts or data caps.

Business plans are also available.

*Platinum is available in limited areas.

Who owns Sprout Fiber Internet?

Sprout Fiber Internet is a service provided by Cooperative Connection, a subsidiary company owned and managed by Cullman Electric Cooperative. The co-op’s employees, management, Board of Directors, and contractors are building and supporting Sprout Fiber Internet.

How will this affect my electric bill?

Sprout Fiber Internet is billed separately from electric bills.  Members will see no change to their monthly electric bill because of Sprout. Only subscribers of Sprout will get a bill for their internet service.

How do you decide which areas get Sprout and when?

We realize the need for reliable internet service is real in today’s world and we are working hard to bring it to all 36,000+ co-op members. We started Sprout Fiber Internet in 2020, knowing it would take approximately 5 to 7 years to fully build out to our entire service area. We plan one year at a time, using 5 Factors to guide our decision processes. Each fall we announce which areas will be included in the upcoming year’s expansion plans.

Subscriber Help

When is my Sprout bill due?

Sprout Fiber Internet is a pay-in-advance service. When you set up your account and made a payment prior to installation, you were paying for your first full month of service. Sprout bills on the 1st of each month for that month’s service. Payments must be made before the end of the day on the 15th of that month. Late fees are applied on the 20th of the month. Accounts that are not paid in full before the due date of the following month are considered delinquent and are subject to disconnection. Accounts that remain delinquent will be closed for non-payment and are subject to collections.
